Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship.
  • Basic to moderate computer literacy/competency. Ability to learn/work within computerized tracking/business systems for the purpose of reviewing inventory levels, ordering parts, review machine component listing, etc.
  • Conceptual and logical thinking organized and having the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks and workload.
  • This Field Service Technician role requires the ability to work extended hours and travel a great deal. The Field Service Technician may be needed to travel with little notice to customer locations most anywhere in the US. As the skill set of this service technician matures, they may also be asked to travel internationally.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Developed interpersonal and negotiations skill set. Composed and able to listen and professionally respond to customer concerns.
  • Strong technical skills set and ability to problem solve mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Post high school technical schooling/accreditation. Associates or bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field.
  • Experience as a customer service or field service representative, serving in a problem solving and or technical role.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing methodologies, KanBan, 5-S, Process Flow/Value Stream Mapping.

Essential Functions of Job Under the Direction of Leadership:

  • Serve as point person with customers, addressing concerns and needs.
  • Provide real-time technical support including mechanical, electrical, and programing. Problem solving customer issues and bring to resolution, while maintaining financial and resource balance for the Company.
  • Assist with the returns of parts from customers that may or may not be defective and research why the part was returned.
  • Serve as liaison with vendors and suppliers, communicating issues and concerns, dates & deadlines, etc.
  • Assist with communication, coordination, and shipment of needed parts to customers.
  • Train and educate customer in the use/application of Norland products.
  • Capture customer concerns in Quality Assurance NCP/CAPA database.
  • Uses current and any new CRM/ERP/Inventory software to document communications, parts sales, incidents, etc. of customers.
  • When serving in the capacity of a field tech, complete the Installation parts list to ensure arrival with needed support equipment and tools. Serve as company liaison and complete related reports.
  • Assist with writing troubleshooting and maintenance bulletins for Norland equipment manuals as time permits.
  • Works to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and ensuring product quality outcomes.
  • Actively supports and enforces plant safety processes and practices.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Contributes to the success of the business and team by accomplishing individual accountabilities and needed results
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities to be Considered Qualified for the Position:

  • Although primarily a week-day, day-shift position, individual must have the ability to work extended hours, overtime as needed.
  • Ability to take and follow direction.
  • Able to read a tape measure to the 1/16″.
  • Ability to comprehend electrical prints and diagrams.
  • Ability to identify commonly used fasteners and tools.
  • Basic to moderate knowledge of the flow of electricity.
  • Basic to moderate level of mechanical ability and hand-eye coordination.
  • Possess the ability to learn how to read build prints and efficiently translate such prints.

Essential Functions of Job Under The Direction of Production Leadership:

  • Read and comprehend dimensional build prints.
  • Safely assemble equipment following the SOP/print, or given directions, while reaching the metric goal and quality standards.
  • Work with your assigned build team to achieve area goals.
  • Submits ECRs, BOM change requests, and daily metric sheets.
  • Maintains communication with leaders to address safety concerns, problems with the build, or inventory/BOM inaccuracies.
  • Following safe practices, physically moves and or positions equipment within build area.
  • Maintains a cleanliness score of a minimum of 3 consistently.
  • Assists with regular end-of-day routine.
  • Follow ABE’s safety protocols. Including but not limited to: HazCom/SDS maintenance, Forklift/Boom safety, and General Housekeeping.

CNC Machinist

ABE Equipment is looking for a skilled machinist to operate a variety of machines to perform assigned tasks. You will produce or repair precision parts using both manual and automated equipment and accurate measurements. A great machinist needs to possess manual dexterity and an eye for detail. They must also have knowledge of mathematics and mechanics as well as respect for safety precautions.

  • Proven experience as machinist
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
  • Good at math with analytical abilities
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship will be an asset

  • Associates degree in technical, precision machining, or tool and die field.
  • Proven history as a fabricator or machine builder.
  • Proven/seasoned competencies relative to fabrication of metals, machining, welding, wiring and print reading.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Press brake operators will need to know why machines are not at peak performance, how to increase output and how to fix errors.
  • Previous work history in industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Background in some manner of mechanical, electrical, fabrication or industrial maintenance skilled trades
  • Mechanical and Technical Skills: Machines controlled by computers will need operators who understand CAD/CAM technology.
  • Mathematical competency enabling problem solving, advanced level data analysis and application of quality management systems practices.
  • Attention to Detail: Press brakes are precision equipment. Being off by millimeters could be a critical error. Keen attention to detail is required.

Basic Job Description:
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Job Duties and Tasks for “Machinist”:

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Position and fasten workpieces.
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Install repaired parts into equipment or install new equipment.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Program computers and electronic instruments such as numerically controlled machine tools.
  • Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
  • Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, in order to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.
  • Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metalworking machines.
  • Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties and mathematics.
  • Confer with numerical control programmers in order to check and ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly, and that output will meet specifications.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools.
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
  • Prepare working sketches for the illustration of product appearance.
